100% Clearance at NI Export SaleGayle
The first NI Hampshire Down pedigree export sale for many years was held recently at Beattie Livestock Sales in Omagh. This was very much a “test” event for a small offer of top quality rams just before the breeding season starts in early July.
The results were very encouraging with some of the top ROI breeders attending and sheep were sold to the Republic, Northern Ireland, England and France. Indeed the international purchasers were demanding a much bigger offer in the future not just for rams but also ewes. The breed has taken off big time in ROI as the breed ticks so many sustainability boxes including quick finishing off grass only systems.
There was 100% clearance of all sheep offered.
Top priced Ram lamb at 1350gns was bought by pedigree breeder Stephen Short of Yorkshire, from A&V McFadden of the Ashley Flock.
The second highest priced Ram lamb at 580gms from J&O Mercer’s, Moybrick Flock was purchased by Pedigree breeder Kevin McCarthy to add to his export orientated flock.
The sale saw great interest from Southern Ireland and UK breeders plus many international breeders looking for stock. The Rams average at £547 with complete clearance.
The club would like to thank Richard Beattie of Beattie’s Livestock mart for help and efforts in making a positive start for an event which the club is very keen to develop for the future.
