Friday 13th lucky for some at the National Show
Friday the 13th was lucky for some especially Stephen Short from the Highcliffe Flock in Halifax when his Ram Lamb was crowned National Show Champion at Three Counties. The National was watched by among others, a contingent of Argentinian Breeders who had come over to promote the first Hampshire Down World Congress in 2026.
The Ram Lamb 22Z2500719 beat off strong competition in the Ram Lamb class and is sired by the GYS Champion Highcliffe Highlight with Chaddlehanger & Ballycreelly breeding behind it and out of a home-bred ewe by Westland Caractacus.
Judge on the day Tim Hunter from the Lindsey Flock in Lincolnshire said ‘Many sheep could have emerged victorious. The ram lamb and the ewe lamb were close in all respects but the ram slightly pipped the ewe as I thought he showed himself to full effect’
Reserve Champion went to the Female Champion, a ewe lamb from Adrian Rundles Treworthal Flock from Cornwall. The Ewe Lamb B832500169 is sired by Treworthal Maximus and out of a home bred ewe by Lecropt Challenger and has already been Female Champion and Reserve Breed Champion at Royal Cornwall Show.
Runner up in both the Male & Female Championships was Janine Newland Littleewe Flock from Cambridgeshire. Reserve Male went to the first prize Aged Ram bred by the Jim Fletcher at Loughan Moss Flock in Northern Ireland with the Reserve Female also bred by the Fletchers which won first prize in the Aged Ewe class.
