Hampshires in demand at Carlisle Sale

Trade was on fire yesterday for the Hampshire sale at Carlisle with only one female not securing a new home and 9 out of 11 rams selling which is significantly more than previous years with a Carlisle record price thrown in for good measure! Sheep were sold to all parts of the UK from Cornwall to Inverness with many new flocks starting up and online bidding is always a good help.
2500gns was the top price of the day and this was for the much talked about shearling ram from J & S Livestock SEAWELL Flock from Northamptonshire on their first trip to the sale. Seawell Costcutter has been successfully shown this year and was Supreme Interbreed Champion at Bucks County Show 2023, Native Champion at Blakesley Show 2023, 2nd Place at the National Show (Three Counties) 2023 and Champion at Westmorland Show too. This ram will make his way to Mark Lowther from Herefordshire.
Champion at the pre sale show made the next top price of 1500gns. WHITBY Dracula was a powerful stretchy Shearling Ram from Louis Stainthorpe, North Yorkshire. Dracula had looks that matched his figures having won Overall Reserve Champion at Driffield Show 2023 with multiple small show wins and high scan weight and muscle figures combined with low fat. Dracula has Thorbeck breeding on both sides and sold to the judge Allen McFadden from the ASHLEY Flock in a Northern Ireland partnership with Colin & Adam Gregg, KILDOWNEY Flock
Top price female through the ring was 1400gns for Graham & Judith Galbraith GRAYLEN Shearling Ewe who was unshown before the sale. Sired by the high index Yarcombe Hero and out of a Wilstrop ewe and in the top 25% TSI and MI index. Sold in lamb with twins by Thornfalcon Odyssey she makes her way to Elaine Dalgliesh BARNHILL Flock in Dumfriesshire. Graylen sold other Shearling ewes for 1300gns again to Elaine Dalgliesh and 1200gns for the Female Champion selling to Donald & Anne Henderson, MARANATHA Flock, Inverness.
First place ewe lamb from the TREWORTHAL Flock of President, Adrian Rundle from Cornwall also made 1400gns. With Graylen breeding on both sides this lamb passed out of the ring unsold but later sold to David & Denise Middleditch of the ST PAUL Flock in Suffolk. The Treworthal Flock also sold their Senior In Lamb Ewe for 1300gns to RKG Farms, Kirkcudbright and another Shearling Ewe for 1000gns to R Davies, Gwynedd.
First prize Ram Lamb from Lorna Vevers CHAPELHILL Flock made 500gns, by Eastfortune Furlough and out of a Stourfield ewe he heads to Lockerbie for D Bell & Sons.
A big thank you to David Taylor, Merlin Vet for his continued support.
