From 1st July 2023 rams will require a DNA result in accordance with the HDSBA scheme, before they can be registered as stock rams.

We recommend that Members test their ram before use in case something happens to the ram as no lambs can be registered without the sire’s DNA profile being on file. Rams born after 2023 will need to be sire verified.

From the 5th May 2026 you can order your test kits through your Grassroots account, you can find a guide on how to do that below. Please make sure that completed kits are sent to HDSBA, Pedigree Livestock Services, Jodie Bowman, Holme House, Dale, Ainstable, Carlisle, Cumbria, CA4 9RH.
