More top prices for Treworthal at Exeter Sale

Marteye and online bidding were definitely a great help for the South West Sale at Exeter Market, Devon with sheep going as far as Yorkshire and Northamptonshire. Plenty of breeders were around the ring to help the bidding too but trade was selective.

Proving you don’t need to have a large pen of sheep to come away with a Champion Rosette and the sale top price was Society President, Adrian Rundle. The only entry from the Treworthal Flock, a ewe lamb B832200345 sired by Graylen Churchhill with Yarcombe and Chaddlehanger breeding on the dam side, picked up the Champion of the pre sale show judged by Arthur Brown. It also went on to gain the top price of 950gns and heads to J & S Livestock, Northamptonshire to join Treworthal females they bought at Carlisle.

550gns was the next top price for Jon Barnards Stourfield Flock. This older ewe 90Y2001546 has Stourfield breeding on both sides and was first prize in the older ewe class. Sold in lamb to Stourfield Eric and scanned with twins she sold Mr & Mrs Taylor from Taunton who invested in two more older ewes at 520gns and 450 gns from the same home to set up a new flock. Jon sold another in lamb ewe for 520gns to Jessica Norman Haddon Flock.

Stalwart of the breed Henry Derryman from the Yarcombe flock sold his pen of ewe lambs well with a top of 500gns for 30N2206260, a Lecropt Legend sired well muscled lamb. She has figures to match her looks with the highest EBV in the catalogue of 302.65. She goes to Paul & Lisa Dunnings Ashwater Flock in Hampshire. Another ewe lamb from the Yarcombe Flock made 480gns and seeing her potential via Marteye were Austyn Chapman & Nikki Wadkins from the Eppleby Flock in Yorkshire.

500gns was the top for shearling ewes, this one from the Thornfalcon Flock of Lucy Heywood. 47L2100893 has Ballycreelly breeding on both sides and was scanned in lamb with twins to the new Thornfalcon stock ram, Graylen Topgun. This lady heads to Cornwall with Adrian Rundle reinvesting his money.

325gns was made by the older ram on sale from Penny Coulter-Smiths Dunns Flock. The Treworthal bred ram has been used as the stock ram at Dunns and will now do the same for Sue & Robin Small’s Goodstone flock at Ashburton.

Spring born ewe lambs from Charles & Jan Hursts Bugle Gate Flock all the way from Worcestershire topped at 200gns. The first prize winner from the show class was A742200856, sired by Ballycreelly Sir Harry with Parkstock and Yarcombe on the dam side will also make her home at Sue & Robin Small.
