Judge Adrian Rundle commented on his prize winners – I would like to thank the Northern Ireland Club for inviting me to judge their National Show – I’ve been looking forward to judging for 3 years and it was well worth the wait. Well done to all the exhibitors for putting on a great show of Hampshire Downs and to club members for making me feel so welcome and arranging an enjoyable few days.

I had some large classes with some difficult decisions to make and I was impressed with the quality of the sheep.

My final Championship line-up saw a great display of the modern Hampshire Down – with great gigots, length and tremendous loins. All of the first prize winners handled really well with great fleshing throughout.

My Reserve Champion was the ewe lamb – this ewe lamb stood out for me from the moment I handled her. She had great fleshing and muscling throughout and was very alert and showed herself off in the ring.

My overall Champion was an exceptional shearling ram. He handled the best in the show and was a tremendous example of the modern Hampshire – full of flesh and solid to handle with an exceptional loin and gigot. He showed himself off from the moment I saw him, with great presence and power – He stayed with me right until the championship line-up where he continued to catch my eye.

It was great to see a good turnout out of younger and newer exhibitors doing a great job, ensuring the breed is in safe hands for the future.
