It was the senior ladies that took the buyers eye at the South West Society Sale at Exeter this year, with a top of 1150gns and an average of £931.88 in that section.

Buyers were selective with their purchases and sheep sold as far a field as Yorkshire, Hertfordshire and Hampshire thanks to the help of Marteye.

The lovely lady that caught the eye of both the judge and the ringside was from Henry Derryman and Family from the Yarcombe Flock at Honiton. Judge Stephen Short from the Highcliffe Flock from Halifax couldn’t not look past this powerful ewe for his Champion of the day. She is March 2020 born and sired by Yarcombe Hero, by the much thought of Kelsey Orion and out of a home bred ewe with Yarcombe breeding on both sides and selling in lamb to Graylen Bandit with twins. Winning the fervent bidding battle was Tom, Tash, Harry & Charlie Bougourd from the Loxhill Flock in Somerset.

The Bougourd Family have an eye for quality paying the next highest price of 1000gns for another cracking senior ewe this time from the Treworthal Flock of Adrian Rundle from Newquay. This ewe is sired by the homebred Treworthal Seamus 2 and out of a Yarcombe bred ewe that has bred exceptionally well at Treworthal. She sold in lamb with twins by Lecropt Fraser.

The Reserve Champion and also the winner of the Ewe Lamb Class was another from Adrian Rundles Treworthal Flock and made 800gns, the joint top price for ewe lambs. This sweet lady is sired by the successful show ram Treworthal Magnus, unbeaten in the show ring as a lamb and out of another Yarcombe ewe and makes her way to Hertfordshire to join Harry Elsdens Hertford Flock.

Another Ewe Lamb realising the same 800gns price was from John Harrison Corftheads Flock all the way from Mid Glamorgan. This lamb was sired by St Paul Cathedral and out of a Thorbeck sired ewe. Both Croftheads ewe lambs went to DJ & ER Taylor from Taunton, the other having very similar breeding and realising 620gns.
