Buyers from all over the UK surrounded the ring for the National HDSBA Premier Sale and they were treated to a quality offering of sheep. As expected Rams were in demand with only 2 rams not securing a home and Ram Lambs averaging over £100 more than last year.

The headline price was 2500gns and this was secured by the winner of the first Ram Lamb class of the day for Austyn Chapman & Nikkie Wadkins of the Eppleby Flock from Richmond, Yorkshire. B232600092 had some retro genetics behind him being sired by Yarcombe Flashman who was 2015 born and out of a Graylen bred ewe. This lamb makes his way back to Yorkshire for James Bailey and Nikki Ramsey of the Ivanhoe Flock. The Eppleby Flock also sold another Flashman son for 1800gns to Stephen Jones of the Bryncoch Flock in Wales.

2100gns was the next call for Louis Stainthorpe from Whitby, North Yorkshire and his Whitby Flock. A072600368 was Sired by Treworthal Marshel and out of a Whitby Dracula sired ewe and is in the top 1% of the breed for muscle depth and carcase conformation. This lad heads to Wales to join the Egryn Flock of Rhun and Eurgain Davies.

1500gns was the top price for females and this added to the successful day for Louis Stainthorpe. The Whitby Shearling ewe was reserve Female Champion A072500715 and sired by Bridgehaugh Braveheart and out of a Thorbeck ewe. She heads to Stirling, Scotland to the Hawthorn Flock of Hilary & James Strathern. The Whitby Flock also sold a Treworthal sired Ewe Lamb for 1300gns to Dumfries based John Grossick, Rockhall Flock.

Chapman & Wadkins also continued their successful day selling ewe lambs to 1400gns and 1300gns, both to start a new flock for Richard Fitton from Bolton. Both sired by Yarcombe Flashman.

Shearling Rams sold to 1250gns three times for the Seawell Flock of Joe & Sophie Dilibero from Towcester, Northants. The first one sired by Normanby Wellington heads to the Stratherns in Stirling Scotland. The second sired by Seawell Explosive who has the highest Terminal Sire EBV in the breed of 403 and this one was bought by Stirling & Graham Manson, Dunraven Flock from County Down. The third was also sired by Explosive and went to James Dickson, Cynnen Flock from Carmarthen.

Overall Show Champion, judged by Lucy Heywood of the Thornfalcon Flock in Somerset, was Amy Byford from Suffolk with a Ewe Lamb and made 1200gns. Lawshall C322600440 was sired by Loughbrae Gambit and is out of a Eppleby Kingpin bred ewe. This Ewe Lamb was also bought by the Startherns for their Hawthorn flock in Stirling.
