Averages Back but good clearance at Northern Ireland Autumn Sale

Lively demand for all classes of sheep saw a good clearance for Hamps at Ballymena Autumn Sale on 1st October.  The judge for the day Josephine Wray, commanded the highest price for a ewe lamb bred from a home-bred ewe and a home-bred ram (Knockstacken Now What) and selling to K P McCarthy for 500 guineas.  McCarthy, Ballycreelly,  took both the pre-sale show championship and reserve championship but neither met expectations in the sale ring. Only 4 other sheep went home unsold.

Strong demand for females at the North West Region Hampshire Down autumn sale in Carlisle saw strong demand and almost 100% clearance for in-lamb females.   Topping the sale at 1000gns was a shearling ewe from the judge for the day, Kevin McCarthy, N.Ireland.  By Ballycreelly Devil’s Revenge and scanned in lamb with twins to the new Ballycreelly stock ram ‘007’, this stylish ewe went to new breeders T.Marshall who also added in-lamb shearling ewes from Galbraith, Graylen Flock, and Jones, Maes Glas to their consignment heading north to the newly established Pitgair Flock, Turriff, Aberdeen.

Returning for a second year to Carlisle where last year they purchased Ballycreelly stock whose progeny then went on to top the National Sale at Shrewsbury this year for them, Matthew Jones and Rebecca Smith, Birchfield Flock, Telford came looking for more of the same. They returned home with two more Ballycreelly females in lamb to Yarcombe Flashman who sired their successful National Sale ram lamb, going to 800gns for a shearling ewe and paying the top price for older ewe of 650gns.
