Scottish Premier Sale, STIRLING
The Premier Scottish Sale of rams and females held at Stirling on 22nd May peaked at 1100gns for a ram lamb from Adrian Rundles’ Treworthal flock. A son of Treworthal Savea out of a Whitehead ewe by Whitehead Galileo, it was also champion on the day and was knocked down to S & A Moores’ Ballhall flock, Brechin, Angus.
It was a worthwhile journey of over 500 miles from Cornwall as Rundles’ Treworthal flock also took the next best price for a ram lamb at 500gns. This time knocked down to D & K Milnes’ Longcroft flock, Insch, Aberdeenshire, again by Treworthal Savea out of a Treworthal ewe by Ballycreelly Seamus.
Judge for the day Martin Sivill took home one of the lots from Northern Ireland, purchasing his second placed ram lamb from J & O Mercer, Moybrick flock
J & R McFarlane & L Rennies’ Lecropt flock from Stirling, achieved the highest price female of the day with a shearling ewe sold to F & J Glass and Robinsons’ Entineer flock, Alford, Aberdeenshire knocked down at 520gns. This high quality ewe is by Kelsey Fantastic, out of a home-bred ewe, by Thorbeck Chieftain.
At 500gns from A Rundles’ Treworthal flock, was a Treworthal Savea sired ewe lamb, which also took reserve champion on the day, which is now joining G & J Galbraiths’ Graylen flock, Kendal, Cumbria.
Next at 480gns knocked down to J W & S Taylors’ Bridgehaugh flock, a ewe lamb from J & B Hill’s Isle of Bute flock. Sired by Yarcombe Pythagoras out of a Normanby ewe by Pode Hole Hector, she will be travelling to Earlston, Berwickshire. Taylor also bought two more ewe lambs from Isle of Bute and Ballycreelly to add to his newly established flock.
The top 3 prices for shearling rams were from the 2018 National Flock Competition winner, Hazel Hindmarch, Fellrose flock, with all three staying in Scotland. The top price of 500gns was knocked down to D. Scott’s Speyside flock, Ballindalloch, Banffshire. This Fellrose Kris sired ram is out of a Fellrose ewe by Lindsey Tomasz. Also knocked down at 500gns was another Fellrose Kris sired ram bought by C Gilchrist, Dunbar, East Lothian.
