The Scottish Farmer Hampshire Down Champion Of The Decade Goes To MAES GLAS.

With no shows on the horizon the Scottish Farmer decided to run a Champion of the Decade for many breeds that would exhibit at the Royal Highland. The public got to vote on the photos of the Champions from 2010 – 2019 with the top three photos going to a Society approved Judge for the Breed Champion. Breed President Judith Galbraith had the difficult decision of picking from three great sheep. Congratulations to E, B & S Jones, MAES GLAS from Pembrokeshire who took the Breed Champion with a shearling ewe who won the Royal Title in 2011. Judith Galbraith said ‘This was a very difficult decision with 3 outstanding sheep to select from. My Champion of Champions goes to the 2011 winner. She is an eye catching ewe with great length which looks to have good width and power whilst still looking feminine. She also appears to have correct feet and legs and is nice and upright on her pasterns. She has lovely dark ears which are well placed. She just pipped the 2019 winner another lovely correct, deep bodied ewe, again very alert with great colour. My third place is handsome ram lamb with a nice tight fleece but perhaps not just as stylish as the winning ewe on the day’
Reserve was 2019 winner Janet and Brian Hill, ISLEOFBUTE with a aged ewe and honorable mention to 2016 winner, Richard Brand & Son, EASTFORTUNE with a ram lamb.
We look forward to the Interbreed now!

2019 winner from Janet & Brian Hill

2016 winner from Richard Brand and Sons
